Miles Table: Good Homestyle Cooking With a Twist

the details

the review

Before social distancing became enforced, and COVID-19 still was not the main topic on many people's minds across the country, my best friend and I had the opportunity to enjoy brunch on a nice, quiet Friday morning at Miles Table's new location in South Philly.

I was really excited that Miles Table opened up its second location so close to my house and only two blocks away. After hearing some positive reviews from those that live near its original location on west South Street, I knew that I must give the food a try.

Walking into the restaurant, I felt like it had a nice atmosphere to it. The place already has an industrial vibe since it is located inside the old garage and loading dock area of the Bok Building; a former vocational and technical high school. However, Miles Table did a great job renovating the place to give it an inviting feel, and insert their brand with the dark shaded walls contrasting nicely with a vibrant light fixture overhead of wooden tables, and sunshine gleaming through the large garage doors.

My friend and I placed our orders for our meals at the table where the staff member was so prompt and happy to answer our questions about the menu. I decided to get one of the items on their specials board, the Carnitas benedict (pictured above) and my friend got the Omelette off of their main menu, which is filled with dishes that are familiar homestyle cooking.

The food came out quick and fresh, and I couldn't wait dig in as you can tell through my photo already having the first bite gone. The homefries had a nice seasoning to them that gave them the perfect amount of crispiness. I really appreciated this because I feel like most places overcook their potatoes. The eggs benedict was so rich with flavor and was a delicious combination that made my taste buds satisfied. The pork carnitas was so tender and paired well with the hollandaise sauce that had a slight kick to it.

My friend also let me know that their omelette tasted great too, which I wasn't surprised by based on how light and fluffy it looked.

Overall, I have to say that I had an awesome first impression of Miles Table. After all of this social distancing is past us and life returns to what it once was (which I hope to be soon), I'll be sure to make another trip whenever I'm craving a delicious brunch, and hope to relive another sunny, quiet weekend morning enjoying a nice meal with my best friend.

Stay safe and stay hopeful, friends!
